Academics & Enrichment

At St. Patrick School, we blend academic rigor with enriching experiences to create a well-rounded education. Our dedicated teachers deliver a challenging curriculum while our diverse enrichment programs — ranging from art and music to STEM — help students explore their passions and develop their talents. This balanced approach fosters critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning, all within a supportive, faith-centered environment.

Open Enrollment

“St. Patrick School is a Catholic School. We teach students about understanding and enjoying faith. We also teach them to live their faith. Concepts like love, community, reconciliation, responsibility for self and others, generosity, tolerance and social justice are an integral part of our curriculum. More importantly, these values are observable every day in the interactions and attitudes among teachers, parents and students.”

Programs

Curriculum

St. Patrick School adheres to the curriculum guidelines established by the Diocese of San Diego. Our curriculum is aligned with both the Common Core State Standards and the Diocesan Curriculum guidelines. As a Catholic school, we integrate Catholic values throughout all facets of our educational program.

Spanish

Offered to grades 4th-8th. The purpose of the curriculum is to move students toward second language proficiency. It is with sincere hope that students when moved to high school will know the first year of their Spanish 1 course they have been learning since 4th grade, but also with an insight of the Spanish and Mexican cultures around us.

Computer Science

St. Patrick’s Middle School computer science classes (Grades 6-8) aims to build foundational knowledge and skills that will prepare students for more advanced study in high school and beyond. These are the class objectives:

  • Computer History
  • Digital Citizenship and Online Safety
  • Computational Thinking and Problem-Solving
  • Introduction to Programming
  • Introduction to Microsoft Excel
  • Creating Digital Content
  • Understanding Networks and the Internet
  • Impact of computing / Artificial Intelligence

Physical Education

Kindergarten to 2nd Grade Objectives:

  • Develop basic motor skills.
  • Encourage enjoyment of physical activity.
  • Introduce basic rules and concepts of games and sports.
  • Promote cooperation and fair play.

3rd to 5th Grade Objectives:

  • Refine motor skills.
  • Introduce more structured sports and activities.
  • Emphasize teamwork and strategy.
  • Continue promoting physical fitness and health education.

6th to 8th Grade Objectives:

  • Master complex motor skills.
  • Develop proficiency in a variety of sports and physical activities.
  • Encourage lifelong physical activity and fitness.
  • Teach advanced health and wellness concepts.

Music

Grades K-2 will be focusing mainly on rhythmic games and songs to help build their confidence and musical awareness. This will be done with some very fun and unique percussion instruments specially designed for early childhood learning.

Grades 3-5 will be challenged to work up their fine motor skills into playing melodies on string instruments. Mr. Fleming has developed a new instrument that called the “American Soprano Banjo”. This is the perfect learning instrument to dive deeper into all of the most essential musical concepts: rhythm, melody, and harmony. This instrument is also the perfect precursor to learning the violin/viola/cello which I hope to add to the program in future years.

Grades 6-8 will begin learning how to record and produce their own music on a digital audio workstation or “DAW”. This is essentially computer software used in music studios paired with a midi controller. They will begin learning how to record their own drums, bass, melodies, and accompaniment using the sounds and features within the software.

Art

This year we will use The EPIC curriculum designed by Deep Space Sparkle. This will expand on our exploration of mediums from last year. The students will learn about the 14 elements and principles of art by completing a project for each. We will be sure to incorporate holidays and school events as well. Our art show will be in May! We will need plenty of volunteers to pull it all together in the hall.

Discovery Garden

The St. Patrick Discovery Garden, located on parish-owned land next to the school, serves as both a vibrant outdoor classroom and a space for fun and physical activity. It helps students learn about nature, life sciences, and nutrition while instilling respect for the environment and pride in our school.

Integrated into the curriculum by teachers, the garden offers hands-on experiences such as growing and harvesting produce. Since its inception in 2013, the garden has been brought to life with the support of parents, volunteers, and generous corporate sponsors. Daycare Program

St. Patrick School offers extended care services for all registered students. Our before-school care runs from 7am to 8am, and after-school care begins at 3pm and concludes at 6pm.

Our extended care program is structured to give students the flexibility to choose how they spend their time. They can engage in activities such as board games, reading, completing homework, playing basketball, soccer, kickball, and occasionally enjoying a movie. At 4:15pm, a fun snack is provided for all participants. Our daycare program is designed to be flexible and affordable, with no waiting list. Parents pay as they go at a rate of $6 per hour, ensuring accessibility for families seeking reliable after-school care.

Drama Club

The “St. Pat’s Players” this year are under the direction of Mr. Morie Williams, a 20-year veteran of teaching children’s musical theater in San Diego. Mr. Williams’ resume includes experience working with the Walt Disney Company, San Diego Musical Theater, East L.A. Classical Theater, and San Diego Unified School District. More importantly, he brings a passion and enthusiasm to teaching with the goal of providing children spaces to fall in love with theater. The after school drama club fall session will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 15. This Introduction to Musical Theater eight-week session will meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30pm and run through November 12. The cost will be $100, billed through FACTS. Permission slips will be available in the front office.
